Following a recent viewing of the new Hemingway Design for Hush Puppies collaboration shoes, I decided to slip into a pair, and boy are they comfy…and more to the point, a crowd pleaser…please know that i’m striding with pride :)

Yesterday evening saw me give an unexpected nod to mod, when i stopped by Jaguar shoes in East London, for the unveiling of #HemingwayDesign for #HushPuppies AW12 shoe collection.

Many of you (or perhaps your folks) will know Hush Puppies as the American brand, who created shoes fit for style and comfort in the 1950’s, branded with the loveable basset hound, that is now an iconic stamp in the shoe world.

To turn our heads to 2012, Hush hasn’t exactly been a name that springs to mind, when thinking of a stylish shoe to rival the likes of Grenson or Trickers, but this is all set to change this autumn / winter, with the Hemingway Design collaboration.

Designer Jack Hemingway (it’s a family business, with 2 generations being at the helm) led the way with creating the range of 7 or so styles for AW12, all of which have taken on the “iconic heritage” of HP, which Jack has fused with the Mod club culture of the 50’s.  Wedge soles have been paired with brogue details in rich suede fabrics, and the chelsea boot has been given a friendlier exterior, all of which make for a strong direction to take their premium footwear.

The shoes which are produced in Portugal, come in a feast of rich colours perfect for making you standout in the winter months…take your pick from shades of rust, grey, taupe, pale green and the YSC favourite, yellow! 

Hemingway might not be a name familiar to all, but the brains behind the operation, previously ploughed their time and creative efforts into the DNA of 1980’s cult British clothing and shoe retailer, Red or Dead.

The brand was started by Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway, at that point a young couple living in Camden, selling their wares to earn a living, but their business savvy and passion, allowed them to create a design revolution for British culture. The Hemingways have in recent years turned their talents to “affordable social design” and have implanted this ethic to the Hush collection.

To sum this collaboration up…YSC can only say how nice it is for heritage brands to return to the fold, we are certainly welcoming you with open arms!
