With the most recent release of a celebrity endorsed underwear affair, i got to thinking about men and their pants…Are you a man who dares to bare with the lights still on, or do you switch them off in the knowledge, that you don’t quite match up to the image you’ve portrayed?
As David Beckham teams up with H&M to release a line of 6 or so pieces, I imagine that it will mainly be a queue of women, who took their spot at the Regent street store yesterday. These women, were no doubt, screaming to not only get a glimpse of “Golden Balls” but the hope of making their man / men, look that darned good in pants!
Gone are the days of our mothers laying out an outfit, including pants and socks on the bed, this is the dawn where we make that often bold choice ourselves. To be frank, your choice in pants say a lot about you.
Do you choose a branded band, trunk, y-front, patterns or plain, superhero inspired theme, loose fitting cotton, or for the more daring, a jock / thong…the selections are endless, and stores such as Selfridges boast an impressive mass of tighty whiteys!
The power brands that we often find ourselves name checking are Calvin Klein, Armani, etc, but why is this? Logic would simply put it down to clever marketing and campaigns that show cavorting sexy young things, but on the other hand, it’s mainly down to wanting to look as good as the cavorting beauties, who are no doubt packed, stuffed and retouched to give them the curves you so admire.
I personally think it’s best practice to go for underwear that is simple, classic and above all clean (not in the dirt sense)…brands like British retailer Sunspel, offer good product at affordable prices that doesn’t carry the look of a former childlike you.
Be a man and step up to the plate of good underwear, that is understated and offers a more refined image, this is perhaps the gentleman in me talking, but imagine what the paramedics would say if they had to cut your trousers off of you?!

A presentation of the Marni nature, works well for the brand…no lights, camera, action, but instead, just a showcase that reminds you why they are widely regarded as the “go to” of menswear brands, when looking for a simple and clean cut aesthetic.
The AW12 presentation did not fail in providing a selection of easy to wear pieces, which will slot into any well dressed man’s wardrobe. We were also presented with a little swagger, the inclusion of fur tails hanging from bags, fur scarves and general fur trim, managed to heighten the lux feel to what we were seeing, but in that playful way, that the brand always does.
In terms of finishing the looks, bags were of a good size to fit some of life’s little trinkets and shoes were a joy to see, with thick / sturdy soles, ideal for stomping through London.
It will be interesting to see the Marni way of life, transferred to a H&M customers budget, when their collaboration hits stores this year. Whilst i won’t be lining up over night, i will definitely be stopping by the high street chain to find out what is on offer!
