Over at Dries Van Noten, the showspace was key to making this presentation as strong as it was…signature prints and patterns, from the works of graphic designers Gijs Frieling and Job Wouters, were not only used to inspire their AW12 collection, but they were also plastered on the backdrop to the runway walk, one might say that it felt like watching a live installation unfold before your eyes, with a team of artists literally working on the scene, as the 4 minute show was sent from back of house.
Models leant their frames to beautiful overcoats, that had military stylings, some oversized collars and the now trademark double breasted finish for the season.
As the show progressed, we were given a dose of psychedelic with of our refined tailoring. Full suits where every inch was painted with the words or images of the backdrop, this was fun and playful, yet weirdly wearable, perhaps this was Dries way of making a verbal statement without actually having to shout about it.
Whilst this wasn’t exactly the norm for a Dries Van Noten show, it was nice to experience something that wasn’t predictable…i think fans of the brand will love the collection, and those not so familiar will enjoy what they unearth.
