YSC AW12 Runway Watch - Burberry Prorsum Men's
Sat in my room, and readying myself for the AW12 Burberry Prorsum men’s show, I picture in my mind, having just returned from a summer vacation, where i spent lazy days in Africa, embracing heritage prints and patterns, as supplied by the SS12 men’s Burbs show…
With my mind now focussed on the task in mind, i logged on to hear melodic guitar ramblings of a CB picked track, which made for a nice backdrop, to the chitter chatter of the fashionista’s. Arial views of the space, allowed for me to catch sight of the beautifully panelled sidewalls, all dressed suitably in trademark Burberry colours.
The lights dimmed and seats taken, the effective pitter patter of a typical London rain shower begins. Our first model appears with umbrella up and a trench coat draped so elegantly over his shoulders, he strides down the runway, dressed impeccably in a beautifully cut grey suit and just a hint of polka dot visible on his shirt.

Watching the first handful of looks glide down the runway, the scene is most definitely set…an English pimp named Sherlock, who wears shades of grey suiting, with playful pop’s of polka dot, sharp double breasted outerwear, that grazes the knee and very simple accessories. It doesn’t take a brave man to wear these opening looks, more a man who knows how to make a simple style statement.

Patchwork suede document holders and playful striped knits, started what was a brighter note to the next part of the show. Taking influence from what would appear to be Rothko paintings, the rich colours lay on top of each other, sometimes on slanted angles, but all the while still keeping a masculine line to them.

Making our way through the show, hemlines on outwear were raised, to just above the waist and fabrics became all the more lux, these qualities paved the way for velvet suits to parade the runway, in deliciously rich and almost edible shades of toffee, green moss, burgandy and brown. Quilts, sexy leathers and puffas lay their roots in the coats, which seemed to be tailor made for the suits.
Everything to me, seemed to work well in this show, including the rather dandyfied, mallard and ram’s head topped umbrellas…as the dramatic music rolled out of the sound system, allowing for a close to the show, i felt like a Burberry boy, confident and in charge of what he wears.

In the words of one friend “CB and team were flexing their tailoring muscle” and they did it VERY well…happy previewing and pre buying chaps!
